Taking regular showers or baths is important to maintain personal hygiene. To shower, you usually just stand up, let the water flow over you, wash up, and leave. But, if you unable to stand up properly for some reason (perhaps due to an injury or a disability) finding a way to shower sitting down is your next objective. The issue of having to sit down while taking a shower is easily solved by purchasing a water resistant chair to place in the shower stall. With such a chair you will not need to apply any pressure to your legs, enabling you to shower comfortably and safely.
Of course, not all shower stalls are large enough to fit a chair inside, and some showers are placed inside a bathtub, fitting a chair inside a bathtub can be difficult. So, before you start browsing stores for a shower chair, consider the size and design of your shower. Once you have correctly measured the entrance to your shower stall, selecting a high quality chair is the next step you must take. Of course, if you cannot walk you will probably need someone else to do the shopping for you, or push you around on a wheelchair.
Unfortunately, since people occasionally have accidents that disable them from walking for a period of time, the rolling shower chair market is quite large. There are many different types of rolling shower chair; each designed for a specific shower stall. For example, maybe your shower is part of the bathtub as well, meaning you will usually stand up inside the bathtub and wash off. So, if you cannot stand up in the bathtub due to your injury, you can find a chair that will fit into your bathtub.
The scenario is quite common, finding a tub chair is not unusually difficult; most hardware or bathroom stores sell a wide variety of these chairs. Find one that is firm and sturdy, make sure it will not slide or move around in the bathtub, an unsteady bathroom chair can be dangerous. Make sure it has rubber on the bottom of its legs, so it does not slip easily. Most tub seats are relatively cheap, depending on the model. If you get a full chair with a seat and back it is going to be more expensive, however, shower stools are quite cheap.
So, if you are unable to walk, look ahead and buy yourself a handicapped shower chair or a rolling shower chair. Just do not forget to measure the size of your shower stall enclosures, you do not want to buy a chair and be unable to use it.
