They used to be found in older homes all the time. Modern builders and interior decorators got away from using them, but now they are making a big comeback. Some of them sat flat on floor while others were raised up using claw feet. We know them as soaking bathtubs. They are deeper, wider, and longer, than the standard 30×60 inch bathtub. Nothing can melt away the day’s frustration and stress like a nice long hot bath can. What better way is there to do that then in a nice oversized bathtub?
While these tubs do not offer the fancy features of a Jacuzzi or whirlpool, they do offer the same comfort. In addition, there are no moving parts to break. Simply fill your tub with hot water, get some bubbles, and then climb right on in because you are good to go. Maybe get one of those shelves that go across the tub to hold your beverage, candle, or book. You can even have a small flat screen mounted somewhere.
The traditional soaker tub is free standing. This is what makes them perfect for the larger sized bathrooms. In the Old West, a soaker tub was a luxury item and had to be requested when checking in. Nonetheless, smaller ones can be found too although that defeats the purpose. When remodeling it is a good idea to consider extra space for these types of deep soaking tubs. In addition, keep in mind the plumbing rough in dimensions are different. So expect some additional plumbing work like relocating the drain and water lines. Needless to say, the additional expense should prove to be well worth it. Next, if you only have the space for a tub, but want a shower too, your problem is solved. They make hoop shaped kits that allows anyone to install a shower curtain around the entire circumference of the tub.
A good variation of the standard soaker is the Japanese soaking tub. These require less installation because they can be built in using the standard sixty-inch space. Instead of being thirty inches wide, they are forty. Some are even wide enough to accommodate two people. Nevertheless, which never style you choose, there are many benefits to owning a soaking bathtub. Along with the use of a tub chair, the larger sized soaking tub makes it easier for an aging parent to bathe himself or herself. This keeps them independent longer. Anyone with a handicap will also find it easier to bathe him or herself too. Finally, mom will love putting two or three kids in the bathtub at the same time. Once you own one you will wonder how you ever did without it.
If you need a large tub for relaxation, an aging parent, or a nice romantic evening, today’s modern deep soaking bathtubs are just what you are looking for. Now, where’s that bubble bath!
