The best thing about using an oval shower curtain rod (also usually known as curved shower curtain rods) is that it means that you can place it pretty much anywhere in your bathroom (or in your house) as it only screws into one place. In contrast, a straight shower curtain pole must be attached at both ends to a wall, and can only be placed over a bath or some kind of shower tray. In addition to this, an oval shower curtain rod can be bought in a number of different looks and styles – far more than you’d get with a plain old straight rail. This gives you a further opportunity to ‘’showcase your sense of style” (Gary Numan) as they can be bought in a wide selection of brands and made from an even wider range of materials (such as wood, metal (all different types of metal actually) and plastic.
You may have an image in your head of an oval shower curtain rod, and it may be that which you’d often see in a Western film starring John Wayne. Where they have come from since that time is quite extraordinary, and they can really add a touch of class and mystique to your bathroom if properly installed and if they match the style of the rest of the room.
While you can get oval shower curtain poles that are basically a circle shape, you can also get curved shower curtain rods that are similar to the straight style but have a curve in them. This curve gives you a greater space to shower within, and is a really clever and simple idea that can really revolutionise your showering experience. The only caveat of this is that you need to have a bath with the same curved shape as the curtain rod, but these are easily found and can be bought fairly cheaply these days so that shouldn’t be a problem in finding one if that’s the kind of thing that you want.
When installing your oval shower curtain rod make sure that you screw it in so that it’s high enough. Remember that you’ll probably only get one shot at this (as you’ll have to drill a hole through the tiles and you don’t want lots of holes in them as it looks really messy) so make sure you get it right first time. Think about the tallest person that will be using it. How tall are they? Most likely there’s going to be someone that’s at least 6 foot (due to average family sizes and average heights) so I’d say add on a few inches to this at least and that should probably be fine. Remember that you oval shower curtain rod can be too low but it can never be too high (unless you somehow manage to break the ceiling!) so don’t be too conservative when measuring. The reason for this is that you want people to feel like they have their own space and privacy within the shower, and you want them to feel like nothing is watching them and that their shower curtain is doing its job.
